Surrey Police are investigating after liquid was reportedly squirted or thrown at pedestrians from passing cars. In the latest incident, a black Audi slowed down by a jogger before a passenger squirted a substance, believed to be water, in their face from a bottle. The incident happened at around 8pm on Thursday in College Road, Epsom, and the victim was not injured, the force said.
Similar reports in Elmbridge
This comes after several similar reports from Elmbridge, a Surrey borough. A liquid-filled glass bottle was thrown from a black SUV towards a pedestrian at 10.42pm on July 17. It occurred in Esher Road, near the Molesey Road roundabout, but there were no injuries reported.
Two similar incidents were reported in Cobham, a village in Elmbridge, on May 6. One person said liquid was thrown at them from a passing vehicle at around 5.55pm in Leigh Corner and another reported the same at about 7.50pm in Tilt Road. The roads are about 150 metres apart.
Police appeal for information
Elmbridge Borough Commander Inspector Chris Thoday said: “We recognise the distress and alarm incidents like this can cause. While thankfully no injuries have been reported, this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable. We are actively investigating and ask anyone with information to come forward.”
Surrey Police asked for other potential victims, witnesses and anyone with dashcam or video footage to contact the force quoting PR/45260086397 for Elmbridge or PR/45260095129 for Epsom.
