BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell has spoken out about a terrifying incident that saw him targeted in a drive-by shooting while filming in South London. The Strictly Come Dancing star revealed he was "lucky to be alive" after a bullet came within inches of striking his head during the shocking attack.
The experienced broadcaster was filming a segment for the popular morning show in Brockley when the unthinkable happened. "I heard what I thought was a firework, then felt something whizz past my ear," Bushell recounted. "It was only when I saw the damage to the wall behind me that I realised it was a bullet."
A Narrow Escape
The presenter described the moment he understood the gravity of the situation. "The projectile passed so close to my head that I felt the air displacement. If I'd been standing just a few inches to the left, this would be a very different story."
Police confirmed they are treating the incident as attempted murder and have launched a full investigation. Forensic teams recovered evidence from the scene, including shell casings that suggest the shot came from a moving vehicle.
Continuing Professionalism
Despite the traumatic experience, the veteran journalist demonstrated remarkable professionalism by completing his filming commitment before reporting the incident to authorities. "The team were understandably shaken, but we had a job to do," Bushell stated.
