Police have released new CCTV footage as they continue to hunt for a suspect after a man in his 60s was stabbed on a footpath running through Stafford golf course. The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital following the attack on Newport Road at around 7pm on Thursday May 14.
Detectives believe the victim was walking through the Castlefields area when he was approached from behind and seriously injured. The CCTV, captured shortly after the attack, shows a man running away from the scene. Officers are urging anyone who recognises him or saw him that evening to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald, the senior investigating officer, said: “This remains a fast-moving investigation, and we are progressing a significant number of enquiries. The response from the community has been tremendous and I am grateful to everyone who has already contacted us with information.”
“The victim remains in a stable but critical condition so it’s vital we identify this male as soon as possible,” he added. A police spokesperson also asked the public to consider whether anyone they know returned home with unexplained injuries or displayed out-of-character behaviour.
Specialist officers are carrying out extensive enquiries, including forensic examination, CCTV trawls, and detailed searches. An increased police presence remains in the area. Anyone with information can call 101, use the online portal, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
