Merseyside Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding a horrific knife attack in Southport that claimed the lives of three young children and left several others injured.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana from the London area, remains in police custody after being arrested at the scene on Thursday morning. The attack occurred near a children's entertainment venue in the coastal town, sending shockwaves through the community.
Community in Mourning
Emergency services rushed to the scene following multiple distress calls reporting a violent assault in progress. Despite their rapid response, three children were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Local residents described scenes of chaos and confusion as police sealed off the area around the Cambridge Arcade. One witness reported seeing "parents screaming and running toward the sound of cries" as the tragedy unfolded.

Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Coombs confirmed that investigators are examining Rudakubana's background and possible motivations.
