Two people have died and three others, including a child, have been injured following an explosion at a house in Bristol that police are treating as suspicious. Avon and Somerset Police declared a major incident after being called to the property on Sterncourt Road at around 6.17am on Sunday.
Superintendent Matt Ebbs said officers were responding to a domestic-related incident when an explosion occurred just before their arrival. A woman and a man were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Three other individuals—a man, a woman, and a child—were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency services, including police, ambulances, and a bomb disposal unit, were seen at the scene. A cordon has been established in the Frenchay area, and nearby residents have been evacuated to a temporary rest centre at a Harvester pub. Police have ruled out terrorism as a motive but are treating the cause as suspicious.
Officers are also conducting inquiries at a property in Speedwell linked to the deceased man. The cordon is expected to remain in place until at least Sunday evening. Police have urged the public to avoid the area and not to speculate on the circumstances.
