Six dead bodies have been discovered in a Union Pacific cargo train carriage at a railyard in Laredo, Texas, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of the deaths.
Discovery at Laredo Railyard
The grim find was made on a Union Pacific cargo train at a railyard in Laredo on Sunday, May 10. Authorities have confirmed that six individuals were found deceased, according to KGNS. The Laredo Police Department stated that the bodies were discovered just after 2:30 p.m. at 12101 Jim Young Way, near mile marker 13.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched a full investigation into the incident. As of now, authorities have not released the identities or nationalities of those who died, nor have they confirmed whether the victims were migrants. Laredo is situated directly across from Nuevo Laredo in Mexico and is one of the busiest border crossing points between the United States and Mexico.
Previous Migrant Incidents
This is not the first time migrants have been found at this location. In July 2024, Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector rescued 23 migrants who were attempting to conceal themselves on a Union Pacific train. The agents found them locked inside an autorack railcar and brought them out safely.
Extreme Heat Conditions
The recent deaths come after several days of extreme heat in the region. Weather reports confirm that temperatures reached approximately 95°F, with the heat index climbing to around 104°F on Sunday afternoon, as reported by the Mirror US.
