Six people have been arrested after weapons, cash and suspected drugs were seized in police raids across North Tyneside. Northumbria Police officers conducted a "targeted day of action" as part of Operation Impact on Tuesday, making arrests for a range of suspected offences, including rape.
Warrants and seizures
A warrant at a Wallsend address resulted in three weapons, suspected drugs and £700 cash being found. The force said that suspected stolen property and cannabis-growing equipment was also seized.
Another warrant in North Shields resulted in a community resolution being issued for possession of a small amount of cannabis.
Further arrests and patrols
A statement from the force said: "Throughout the day, officers arrested five more people for offences including rape, driving while unfit and grievous bodily harm with intent. Multiple stop searches were carried out, alongside high-visibility patrols in North Shields and along the coast between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay."
The force added that officers also joined partners at the Operation Coastwatch hub in Tynemouth. A drone was deployed to provide "reassurance to residents".
