Police investigating a rape in Plymouth on New Year's Day have issued a more detailed description of the suspect. The attack occurred in the Mutley area of the city in the early hours of 1 January, leaving the victim injured.
Detectives have studied CCTV footage and are seeking a man described as dark-skinned, slim, aged 20 to 25, and 5ft 5in (1.65m) tall. He had long hair in a corn-braid style and was wearing a black hooded top, possibly with red trim around the hood and a small red logo on the left chest.
The victim, who had been celebrating New Year with friends, was attacked in College Lane at 0415 GMT. The suspect claimed to have a knife during the assault. After the attack, he fled towards North Hill and the city centre.
Police also revealed that the victim's Blackberry Curve mobile phone is missing. Det Insp Costa Nassaris urged anyone offered such a phone in the Plymouth area to come forward. He described the crime as 'very rare in Plymouth' but advised the public to avoid poorly lit, quiet areas when dark and to report suspicious behaviour to police.
