A second man has been arrested following reports that a man riding an e-bike fired shots from a handgun outside a Bootle off-licence. Police were called to the incident outside Stanley Wines on Stanley Road shortly before 5pm on Monday, September 7.
A large police cordon was put in place around Stanley Road, with access restricted at the junctions with Merton Road and Balliol Road.
Two arrests made
Following two warrants in Merseyside, a 20-year-old man from Bootle was arrested on September 9 on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life and section 18 attempted wounding with intent.
Merseyside Police has now announced that detectives made a second arrest on September 13. A 28-year-old man from Bootle has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and attempted wounding with intent. He has been bailed with conditions.
The 20-year-old man, initially taken into custody at a police station in Merseyside, has also been bailed with conditions.
Investigation ongoing
Detective Inspector Chris Clark said: “Our investigation into the shooting on Stanley Road is ongoing and in the past week several warrants have been executed across Merseyside.
“Our officers will continue to use all tools at our disposal to target any suspects involved in this serious crime and bring them to justice so we can keep our communities safe.
“We are relentless in our pursuit of such offenders who use dangerous weapons in our community and although we have now made two arrests it is vital that anyone who has information comes forward as a matter of urgency so we can prosecute those who were involved.”
