Search for two missing people on Southport beach ends safely

Emergency services scoured Southport beach in the early hours of Monday, August 24, searching for two missing people. Police, along with volunteers from the Southport Lifeboat, were called to the beach in the search for the pair.

Drone and quad team locate the pair

The search was supported by a drone which used thermal imaging to quickly find one of the missing people after the volunteers were deployed at around 3.10am. Soon after, the second person was found by the quad bike near Rainford's Track.

The quads, working alongside the drone overhead and Merseyside Police, helped find the second person and safely end the search.

Lifeboat team confirms safe conclusion

In a statement on social media, Southport Lifeboat said: "Our quads were tasked to assist Merseyside Police in a search for two missing people on Southport Beach. The search was supported by the drone, which used its thermal imaging camera to quickly locate one of the missing people. Shortly after, the second missing person was located by the quad team near Rainford's Track. The quads, working alongside the drone and Merseyside Police, helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion. Our quad team returned to station and washed off in time for the sunrise. Our thanks to all involved."

The search brought the incident to a safe conclusion, with both missing people located and the operation ended without further incident.
