North Wales Police are continuing their search for a man who went missing at Llyn Geirionydd, a popular 45-acre lake in Conwy. The alarm was raised on Sunday evening, July 19, at approximately 7.10pm after concerns were reported. The lake is nestled on the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains within Eryri National Park.
Ongoing Search Efforts
Despite searches conducted throughout the night, the man has yet to be found. His family has been notified and is being supported by police. Llyn Geirionydd will continue to have an increased emergency service presence as the search operation continues.
Local residents reported spotting a helicopter circling the lake at around 8pm. One witness described a significant emergency response, while another claimed police divers were present at the scene. The NWP Conwy and Denbigh Rural policing team is urging members of the public to stay clear of the lake while the search continues.
Recent Incident at Same Location
Just 11 days ago, the body of a 21-year-old man was recovered from the same lake. Llyn Geirionydd is a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts, drawing kayakers to its waters. It holds the distinction of being the only lake within Eryri National Park where speedboats are permitted.
Police Appeal for Information
A police spokesperson said: "Immediate family have been informed and are being supported. We ask members of the public to avoid the area today to allow emergency services to continue their work. Anybody who was at the lake yesterday evening who hasn't already spoken to police should contact us."
