A 31-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a colleague with scissors at the InterContinental Hotel in central Sydney. Emergency services were called to the hotel on Macquarie Street at 2.20am on Saturday following reports of an assault.
Police found a 30-year-old woman with stab wounds to her upper body. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where she was due to undergo surgery. A 27-year-old woman was also injured while intervening and was taken to the same hospital.
The alleged attacker was arrested at the hotel and taken to Day Street police station. She was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and assault. Police confirmed the weapon was a pair of scissors and the incident took place in a back office area out of public view.
Chief Inspector Gary Coffey said the motive was not yet confirmed, but all three individuals were co-workers. He described the attack as 'frenzied' and stated that it was 'lucky that things didn’t escalate worse than that'. The hotel declined to comment.
The 31-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
