An 11-year-old girl who died after being found in water at a Midlothian beauty spot has been named and pictured for the first time. Faith Curran died following an incident in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge.
The youngster's family reported her missing in the area around 12.40pm on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Her body was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware. They have asked that their privacy is respected.
Family Tributes
Faith's family would like to thank those who assisted them with their search, for their support and kindness. Loved ones have described Faith as a "happy, adventurous, and outgoing girl who enjoyed life".
The death is being treated as unexplained however there are not believed to be suspicious circumstances. Enquiries remain ongoing and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
Community Mourning
Police have maintained a cordon around the woodland park. Officers remain stationed behind police tape blocking access to the walking route underneath Shank Bridge. The bridge carries the A7 road over the Gore Water.
A single bouquet of flowers were left at the side of the bridge in tribute to the schoolgirl. As news of the tragedy broke, tributes came in from friends, neighbours and members of the local community.
A loved one wrote: "My darling girl you were amazing. I am in shock. Thoughts are with your family."
A woman wrote: "RIP little angel. The whole community is so saddened. My daughter was in her class at school, she is distraught. My deepest sympathies to her family."
Another woman said: "Sending all Faith's family and friends prayers, love and strength at this devastating time."
Local councillor Ellen Scott added: "This is a great tragedy for all the family and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this devastating time."
Police Statement
A Police Scotland spokesperson previously said: "We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge, around 12.40pm on Thursday August 6.
"The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shank Bridge around 4.25pm."
