A school in Northumberland has been evacuated by police over safety concerns, with members of the public warned to avoid the area. Emergency services arrived at Coquet Community School in Amble on Friday morning (October 16).
Police respond to malicious communications report
Shortly after 9am on Friday, Northumbria Police were contacted about a report of malicious communications relating to a school on Acklington Road in the Amble area. Officers are at the scene and the matter is being investigated.
As a precaution, the management of the school decided to evacuate the building. Police have asked the public to avoid the area at this time.
Headteacher updates parents
The school's headteacher, James Andriot, posted a message on the school's social media channels. He said the school had to evacuate following information from the police regarding a potential safety threat in the new building.
All children and staff are currently in the old JCSC sports hall. Andriot said he is working with the police to manage the potential threat and will update as soon as more information is available. Parents who wish to collect their children are asked to park in the old JCSC carpark, where a member of staff will organise the handover. There is no known threat to the safety of pupils at the old site.
