Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a fall from a balcony at a block of flats in Salford. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the victim, believed to be in his 20s, died from his injuries on Saturday night (August 29). He has not been named.
Arrests and custody
A man in his 20s who was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday has now been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. A second man has also been arrested on suspicion of murder. No age has been given for the second man.
“They both remain in police custody for questioning,” said a spokesperson. The incident occurred at a block of flats on Southern Street, off Liverpool Street, in Langworthy, Salford. The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Residents reported that members of the public performed CPR on him.
Investigation and appeal
A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Sunday to establish the cause of death. Chief Inspector Lee Gridley, from GMP’s Salford district, said: “Firstly, our thoughts remain with the man's family and friends as they grieve the death of their loved one. We now have two men in custody, and they are being questioned by detectives.”
He added: “The investigation is progressing at pace, and we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances of this tragic event. We understand that incidents of this nature may cause concern within the community; however, we believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public.”

The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the parties having earlier contact with the police, as is standard with incidents of this nature. No further details have been revealed.
