Sabrina Carpenter Granted Restraining Order After Stalking

Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a restraining order against a man she alleges has been stalking her and attempting to break into her residence. The 27-year-old singer filed a temporary restraining order against William Applegate, 31, in Los Angeles, which was granted on Monday. In the filing, Carpenter described at least four incidents where Applegate allegedly appeared uninvited at her home over recent weeks.

Incident Captured on Doorbell Camera

One particularly alarming event occurred on May 23, when Applegate was recorded on Carpenter's home security camera approaching her front door and attempting to force it open. According to the filing, when a security guard confronted him and asked him to leave, Applegate claimed he knew Carpenter and that she had been expecting him—a statement Carpenter described as "outrageous and entirely false." He then struck the security guard and refused to leave until police arrived and arrested him on suspicion of trespassing, a misdemeanor.

Pattern of Surveillance

The "Espresso" singer alleged that Applegate returned to the neighborhood less than a day later and loitered outside her home. The following day, he parked outside her house in his Toyota Prius, "conducting what can only be described as deliberate surveillance of my movements and my home," Carpenter's filing stated. She noted that he reclined his seat to hide from onlookers and only left after police arrived. Carpenter's security team later determined that Applegate had been parking in the neighborhood and getting "progressively closer" to her house since April 20.

Carpenter's Statement

In the court document filed on Friday, Carpenter wrote: "I have never met him or communicated with him in any way. I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him." She added: "This is not the behavior of someone who stumbled upon my property by accident. This is intentional stalking and surveillance directed at me and my residence."

Court Orders

The court prohibits Applegate from being within 100 yards of Carpenter, her sister Sarah Carpenter, or Sarah's partner, who also reside in the Hollywood Hills home. He is also ordered to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter's home, her car, and her workplace. Carpenter described his actions as "indicative of a dangerous, delusional, and irrational fixation on me." Representatives for Carpenter did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It is unclear if Applegate has legal representation. A court hearing to determine whether police will file charges against him is scheduled for June 18.
