Newbridge RFC has opened its clubhouse to support families after a fire destroyed five terraced bungalows in Pantside, Newbridge, on Wednesday evening. Firefighters were called to Hazelwood Road, and no casualties are believed to have occurred.

In a Facebook post, the rugby club expressed its shock and offered practical help. “We are absolutely heartbroken to have seen the horrendous fire earlier this evening at Pantside and the devastation caused in such a short space of time,” the post read. “We cannot begin to imagine what the people affected are going through right now and our hearts go out to everyone that has been affected by such a frightening and horrendous event, and we hope that everyone is safe and well.”
The club said its clubhouse would open at 8am, offering hot and cold drinks, changing and shower facilities. “No need to contact us or make a booking, just drop in,” the statement added. “This is our community and we are only happy to be able to offer some sort of help where we possibly can.”
Local Support
Locals have already contacted the club offering food and clothes for those who lost their homes. Paul Rogers, the club's commercial director, said: “It's our community and our area. What can we do to help? We're here if anybody needs it. If you can't offer a cup of tea in these circumstances, what can you do?”
Fire Service Statement
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: “Shortly before 16:00 today, crews were deployed to the scene and a number of resources have been mobilised, including 12 fire appliances, two water bowsers, and an aerial ladder platform. Members of the public are urged to stay away from the area to allow emergency services to operate safely and to avoid flying drones, as they can disrupt incident operations. Due to smoke in the area, residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and follow public health advice. Further updates will be provided when more information becomes available.”
