A man has been engaged in a rooftop stand-off with police for over 36 hours in Salford, with riot police, firefighters and paramedics at the scene.
Man on roof since Thursday
Local residents have reported that the man has been perched on the roof of a terraced house on Ash Street, near the town centre, since Thursday evening (August 13).
A significant emergency response, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics, descended upon the area.
Residents report tiles thrown at police
On Friday (August 14), a local resident told the Manchester Evening News that the situation was 'getting worse', with the man allegedly 'throwing people's tiles off their roofs at the police'.
As of Saturday morning (August 15), the man remained on the building's roof, with the stand-off continuing.
Police attempt arrest
Photos from the scene showed riot police donning protective gear. They seemed to enter the property, but as of 11am, the man was still on the roof.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated that officers are striving to bring the man down 'as soon as possible'.
The spokesperson revealed that the incident is 'in relation to an arrest attempt' for the man by another police force. "Specialist officers and partners remain on scene, with a cordon in place," added the force spokesperson.
A cordon remains in place as crews continue to work in the area. It has not yet been confirmed which force the arrest attempt pertains to, or what the man is due to be arrested for.
