The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has temporarily suspended Marlon West, the Restore Britain candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral by-election, from his NHS role over social media posts deemed offensive. West, a community mental health nurse with 30 years in the public sector, faces an 18-month suspension following an interim order published on July 17.
Details of the suspension
West was not present or represented at the virtual hearing where the decision was made. The interim order prevents him from practising as a nurse or midwife during the investigation. The concerns relate to social media posts made in 2025, which the Manchester Evening News understands include comments about the abuse suffered by his daughter, who was sexually exploited at age 14.
Restore Britain told the MEN that in a private Facebook group discussion, West referred to injuries his daughter received from a grooming gang. He reportedly posted: "This is what Pakistanis do! After being raped and tortured! My daughter you sicko."
West's response
West said he has never received a complaint about his clinical practice in his years with the NHS. He stated: "I regret nothing, and I will not be apologising. I stand by everything I said. Gangs of primarily Pakistani Muslim men have raped, abused and tortured vulnerable white English girls across Greater Manchester for decades. Finally there is the political will to fight it with Restore Britain."
He added: "I am proud to be the Restore Britain candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral election next week. I will make one promise. If I am elected, I will go to war with the rape gangs across Greater Manchester. For my daughter, and the thousands of others who have suffered the same evil."
Party support and review process
Rupert Lowe, leader of Restore Britain, said he stands by West. He commented: "This is shocking. Restore Britain’s Greater Manchester mayoral candidate, Marlon West, has just been suspended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council days before the election. Evidently, the timing of this suspension is very questionable. Marlon’s daughter was raped and abused by gangs of Pakistani men in Greater Manchester. He has spent years campaigning to ensure other families do not suffer the same fate."
A panel will review the suspension every six months to determine if it remains necessary, and West will be notified in writing after each review.
