Jed York, co-owner of Rangers and principal owner of the San Francisco 49ers, has been arrested in the US. The 46-year-old pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges on Monday after being arrested in the state of Ohio on suspicion of engaging in prostitution.
Arrest and Charges
According to Columbiana (Ohio) court records, East Palestine Police arrested York on Sunday with a charge description of "engaging in prostitution." That charge was amended to misdemeanor disorderly conduct after York pleaded no contest to that and an additional misdemeanor charge for possessing criminal tools.
The court records say the local prosecutor filed the plea deal Monday morning as York pleaded no contest and paid $1,150 in fines—$150 for the disorderly conduct charge and $1,000 for the criminal tools charge. York also was sentenced to one day in jail for each charge, with one day already considered to be served.
Rangers Involvement
York took over the Ibrox side last summer alongside fellow American businessman and entrepreneur Andrew Cavenagh, who is now Rangers chairman. In February, York opened up on his Ibrox experience in a rare interview following the American takeover.
The 49ers CEO and principal owner described a "special experience" with the Light Blues after attending a clash with Celtic last season and said he was enjoying seeing Rangers attempt to "get back" to glory.
Speaking to talkSPORT about the overseas investment from the 49ers, York said: "We own Leeds United, and we are big investors in Rangers. I get over to the UK a lot for games. There is nothing like Elland Road or going to see a Rangers match. I was at my first Old Firm match earlier this season for a draw, and it was truly a special experience. Watching Rangers get back up, trying to fight, compete, and hold their own has been special. We are hoping for a lot more success."
Background
York has been the majority owner of the Niners since 2024 but has been the team's chief executive officer since 2008. He is originally from Youngstown, Ohio.
