Security forces at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk were scrambled on Tuesday morning after an individual attempted to enter the base without proper identification. The incident occurred at Gate 2 shortly before 8am.
A spokesman for the airbase, which hosts the US Air Force's 48th Fighter Wing, confirmed that gate barriers were deployed and security personnel quickly stopped the vehicle from entering. The individual was taken into custody by Ministry of Defence police.
RAF Lakenheath is the largest US Air Force-operated base in Europe, housing nearly 7,000 active-duty personnel along with British and US civilians. The base operates F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft as part of the 48th Fighter Wing, known as the 'Liberty Wing'.
The Ministry of Defence has been contacted for further comment. No injuries were reported, and the base has since resumed normal operations.
