Greater Manchester Police has issued an update after an unknown substance was thrown on a teenager in Manchester city centre. The incident occurred on Withy Grove, between the Arndale and Printworks, which was closed off on Saturday evening (September 12) as emergency services attended the scene.
Incident details
Police were called to reports of a disturbance at Exchange Square at 6.10pm that evening. A verbal altercation took place before an unknown substance was thrown at a boy aged in his mid-teens.
The teenager suffered an injury described as potentially life-changing, but not life-threatening. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident.
Police update
In an update issued this morning, GMP says the suspect has since been bailed. The victim has also been released from hospital following treatment to his injuries.
No further details have been confirmed on the substance used during the attack. Witnesses, or anyone with relevant video footage, have been asked to come forward.
