Emergency services rushed to a Toby Carvery restaurant in Chadderton, Oldham, after reports that a man was tasered by police in the car park. The restaurant temporarily closed after several police vehicles and an ambulance were seen outside.
Arrests after vehicle stop
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a man and a woman were arrested and remain in custody for questioning. Officers stopped a vehicle driving erratically at 7.45pm on Friday, August 28. The driver became aggressive, and a Taser was deployed. A search led to the man's arrest on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B drugs, and child neglect. The female passenger was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
Restaurant reopened
The Toby Carvery on Chadderton Park temporarily shut its doors. Photos show a police car remained at the scene even after the restaurant resumed operations about an hour later. A GMP statement said: "At 7.45pm on Friday 28 August, officers conducted a vehicle stop after observing vehicle driving in an erratic manner. Officers spoke to the driver, who then became aggressive and a taser was deployed. Following a search of the vehicle, a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B, and child neglect. A woman, a passenger, was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect. They remain in custody for questioning."
