Two cars, a quantity of drugs and cash were seized in Whalley Range on September 30 after suspicious items were spotted on the back seat of a car.
Greater Manchester Police said PCSOs were patrolling the area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle which had been left with its window open. Evidence inside 'suggested it was being used in connection with drug supply', the force said. Officers attended and the vehicle was seized.
Second vehicle and stolen car discovery
On the same patrol nearby, a second suspicious vehicle was spotted, again with similar evidence linked to drug supply visible inside. This vehicle was also seized, with subsequent enquiries discovering that it had been reported as stolen from the Merseyside area.
Around 50 bags of suspected class A and B drugs were recovered from the vehicle, as well as a quantity of cash.
Neighbourhood patrol praised
No arrests have yet been made but GMP said the work 'demonstrates the important role' played by neighbourhood patrols in 'identifying suspicious activity' and 'disrupting' suspected crime. Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Matthews has praised the action and the officers' 'proactive and inquisitive approach'.
“This is exactly what neighbourhood policing is about,” he said. “Our teams know their communities, they know what to look for and, when something doesn’t seem right, they will investigate further.
“Information from the public is also incredibly important to the work we do. If you see me or any of my team out on patrol, please stop and speak to us. Whether something appears suspicious or you have concerns about crime in your area, we want to hear from you.
“I can assure our communities that we will act on the information and intelligence provided to us. By working together, we can continue to disrupt criminal activity and remove harmful drugs and vehicles being used in crime from the streets of Greater Manchester.”
