Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has arrived in Tenerife as British police investigate an alleged assault at London's St Pancras station. The 42-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, flew to Spain early on Tuesday after a video emerged showing him near a 64-year-old man lying seriously injured on the ground.
British Transport Police were called to the station at about 8.40pm on Monday. The injured man remains in hospital in a stable condition with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. Police are treating him as a victim, not a suspect.
CCTV from the station has been recovered and is being studied. Detectives are confident they have identified the suspect and are not seeking anyone else. A key line of inquiry is locating Robinson, who has previously travelled to Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.
In the video, Robinson can be heard saying “he come at me”, an apparent claim of self-defence. The footage does not show how the man came to be on the floor. Nothing publicly known proves or disproves any version of events.
Former policing minister Chris Philp said the case raised border security questions, stating: “The fact that a wanted fugitive was able to pass through our international border should not be allowed to happen.” A government spokesperson said it was an operational matter for the police.
