Police are investigating after a woman was heard in a distressed state from a parked car near Hebburn Quarry Pond in Gateshead. The incident was reported at around 10.45pm on Tuesday evening, prompting a search for a light grey hatchback seen in the area.

A passer-by heard the woman from within a car parked on Wardley Lane, close to the Hebburn Quarry Pond Local Nature Reserve. The vehicle left the area shortly afterwards, and police are now trying to trace it and its occupants.
Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time.

Det Ch Insp Jason Henry, of Northumbria Police, said: “We have been conducting enquiries since receiving the report, and we are keeping an open mind as to what has taken place. We would appeal for anyone with information on the vehicle or who were in the area at the time of the report - no matter how insignificant it may seem - to come forward.”
