Emergency services rescued a man from the water near Westminster Bridge on Wednesday morning, just days after a deadly terror attack on the same bridge. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man was located in the Thames and brought to safety, describing him as “safe and well”.
Witnesses reported a major rescue operation, with multiple ambulances and police divers at the scene. One Twitter user wrote: “Somebody has jumped from Westminster bridge. Huge rescue operation.” Another said: “Something is definitely going down in #London. Helicopters out now.”
A third witness praised the response: “Watching the scenes at Westminster Bridge atm, it's reassuring to see how quickly and meticulously the emergency services have responded.” Police divers were called after first responders initially struggled to locate the man.
The incident comes as a vigil is planned for later today to honour the four victims of last week's terror attack on the same bridge. The Met Police stated: “Emergency Services are dealing with reports of a man in the water near Westminster Bridge #London.”
