Merseyside Police have issued a CCTV appeal after a gun was fired in a residential cul-de-sac in Toxteth last month, with no reports of injuries or damage.
Incident in Trefoil Close
Officers were called to Trefoil Close at around 1.20pm on Wednesday, September 23, following reports that a gun had been fired. The force said extensive enquiries have been ongoing since, including CCTV analysis, house-to-house enquiries and forensic examinations.
Police have released images of a masked man they believe could help their investigation. In the images, the man is seen wearing an orange high visibility jacket and carrying a small bag on his front and a rucksack on his back.
Appeal for information
Detective Inspector Chris Clark from the Firearms Investigation Team (FIT) said: “Although the image does not show the person’s face, we think the distinctive clothing and bag may jog someone’s memory. You may have seen them in the area or be familiar with them from their clothing and build. Please come forward as soon as possible if so.”
He added: “Likewise, we are still looking for any other information to assist our ongoing investigation. If you live locally or were passing on the day of the incident, please check CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices if you have not already. Despite there being no damage or injuries in this case, firing a gun in a residential area is an exceptionally dangerous act which can cause devastation in our communities. We will follow all leads to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Scene and contact details
Several cordons were put in place following the incident, including one along Trefoil Close up to the alleyway leading to Thackeray Close. Pomfret Street was also cordoned off at its junction with Thackeray Close, along with the entrance to Berkley Park.
Several police vehicles remained at the scene, with officers stationed at the cordons. Police and forensic officers could also be seen working in the area, with evidence being bagged and possible CCTV footage being gathered.
