South Wales Police has launched an investigation after a car allegedly collided with members of the public in a village in south Wales.
Officers were called at 9.05pm on Saturday, October 31, to Tynant Road in Beddau following a report of a car colliding with two people. The force could not confirm any arrests or the nature of the injuries. A spokesman said: "Minor injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing."
Video shows group fighting before car drives at them
A video circulating locally appears to show a group of people fighting, after which a car drives into some of the group, pulls away, and returns to drive into them again, though not at high speeds.
The incident drew criticism of the police from a local councillor, who said anti-social driving in the area has been an ongoing problem for more than 18 months. Councillor Karl Johnson, the Rhondda Cynon Taf Conservative councillor for Llantwit Fardre and Efail Isaf, welcomed the police response on Saturday night but said not enough had been done to address the issues in the area.
Councillor says anti-social driving is a long-standing issue
Johnson said it was still unclear exactly what happened on Saturday night. He commented: "I am not surprised. We have big issues locally with anti social driving and speeding. South Wales Police have given a poor response. It happens late at night and weekends. They park at Beddau Community Centre and then go on a rat run from there to Llantwit Fardre and Church Village."
However, on his Facebook page he posted that the police had responded well to Saturday's incident. "Disturbing scenes in Beddau last night," the councillor wrote. "I hope everyone involved is safe and well, and thank South Wales Police for responding so quickly. Anti-social driving puts lives at risk and causes real concern for residents. We need swift action to identify those responsible for last nights incident, alongside sustained work to tackle the wider problem locally. We will continue to push for measures to make our roads safer and keep our community safe."
Later, he said that from his understanding of Saturday's incident, a car drove into a crowd opposite the Welfare Hall on Tynant Road near the Post Office.
