Police are investigating after a cab driver was allegedly caught engaging in sexual activity inside a taxi while parked outside a Sainsbury's supermarket in Blackpool.
A video of the alleged incident shared on TikTok appeared to show the red taxi parked in a bay on the top level of a car park in Blackpool. The clip shows the car during the daytime, and it is believed the driver was inside with another person, Lancs Live reports.
Taxi firm reportedly dismisses driver
The vehicle is thought to be part of the fleet belonging to C Cabs, an established taxi service in the Blackpool area which has been operating for the best part of six decades. The company has reportedly declined to comment on the incident.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the incident has been brought to the attention of the Local Democracy Reporting Service by a "disturbed" member of the public. In an email between a concerned individual and the taxi firm, as reportedly seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, C Cabs appeared to suggest that they had dismissed the driver in question, adding that the incident had been reported to both the police and the taxi licensing services.
Police enquiries ongoing
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "This has been reported to us and our enquiries are ongoing."
Licensing authority Blackpool Council was also approached but said it was unable to comment.
Legal implications of public sex
Having sex in a car in a public place can be in breach of two laws: indecent exposure and outraging public decency. Outraging public decency requires someone to have committed a lewd, obscene or disgusting act in a place where at least two members of the public could have witnessed it.
Indecent exposure requires a person to deliberately expose their genitals intending that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress. The offence carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.
