Police are investigating an alleged assault on a tennis coach by a grounds staff member at the Birmingham Open tennis tournament earlier this week. The incident involved Patrick McCabe, father and coach of Australian player James McCabe, following a dispute over practice courts at the Edgbaston Priory Club on Monday morning.

Incident Details

James McCabe stated on Instagram that his father was “followed, physically handled by a staff member, and left in pain afterwards”, later confirming his father went to hospital. West Midlands Police confirmed they received a report of a man being assaulted at the venue on June 1, with enquiries ongoing and no arrests made.

Ongoing Investigations

The Lawn Tennis Association, ATP, and Edgbaston Priory Club are also conducting an investigation into the allegation, stating they will not comment further while it is ongoing. The alleged assault took place at the Birmingham Open, a key event in the tennis calendar.
