Police patrols are being increased in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire, after an 11-year-old girl was found dead hours after being reported missing. Her disappearance was reported at around 11.20pm on Sunday, October 4, and her body was later discovered near the cricket ground in the village.
Investigation launched
West Mercia Police have launched an investigation into the discovery. The girl's death is being treated as unexplained at this stage, and her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Residents in Elmley Castle have been warned to expect a heightened police presence while officers carry out enquiries in the area.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire.
"The girl was reported missing at around 11.20pm yesterday evening (Sunday 4 October) and was later found deceased in the park near the cricket ground.
"Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, which at this stage is being treated as unexplained.
"People living in Elmley Castle will see an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out their enquiries."
