A Southern League fixture between Yate Town and Weymouth was suspended for nearly an hour on Saturday following a serious incident in the stands. The match at Yate Town's Lodge Road ground was stopped just one minute in, after the visitors had taken the lead.
Both clubs communicated with supporters via social media. Yate Town posted at 3.26pm: 'A serious incident has happened in the crowd and the game has been suspended since the first minute with both sets of players currently off the field of play.' Weymouth later confirmed the delay, with play resuming at 4pm with 44 minutes of the first half remaining.
Reports from Bristol Live indicated significant brawling between home and away supporters. The match eventually restarted with Weymouth leading 1-0, and they added a second goal before half-time. Yate Town received a yellow card in the 88th minute, but three minutes of stoppage time were not enough to change the outcome, and Weymouth secured a 2-0 victory.
