A taxi driver has been jailed for nine years after throwing boiling hot cooking oil over a police officer, leaving him with agonising burns.
Mohammed Sarfaraz, of Kingston Park Road, attacked two officers who entered his home on 17 January. Footage released by Northumbria Police shows officers entering the kitchen with Tasers drawn.
Sarfaraz, who had heated oil in a frying pan, threw it at PC Christopher Bain and another officer before barricading himself in the garage. Officers used a battering ram to force entry and Tasered him before arrest.

Despite repeatedly denying the attack, Sarfaraz was found guilty at trial on Monday (20 October) and sentenced to nine years in prison.
