A West Yorkshire Police officer became an unlikely animal rescuer during a routine patrol on the M62, discovering a distressed dog alone on the hard shoulder in freezing conditions.
The officer was travelling between junctions 25 and 26 of the busy motorway near Brighouse when he spotted the shivering Staffordshire Bull Terrier stranded on the roadside. With no owner in sight and the terrified animal at risk from high-speed traffic, the officer immediately sprang into action.
A Desperate Situation on the Motorway
Approaching carefully to avoid startling the dog, the officer managed to secure the frightened Staffy and bring it to the safety of his patrol car. The dog, visibly cold and scared, was wrapped in a high-visibility jacket to provide warmth before being transported to a nearby police station.
