A police officer was injured while detaining a suspect in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, on Thursday afternoon. A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and remains in custody.

The force described the injury as occurring whilst detaining a suspect in the city centre. Numerous GMP vehicles were seen at the scene, and a large cordon was put in place.

Disruption and Conclusion

The incident caused disruption around the bus station area. Some people waiting for buses at Piccadilly Gardens were reportedly directed to Chorlton Street instead, due to the cordon and ongoing police activity.

By around 5.30pm, the scene had concluded, the cordon was removed, and the police presence was no longer in place.
