Thames Valley Police have named an 88-year-old woman who was found dead at her home following reports of an unexplained death. The woman has been identified as Jill Gant, of Appleford Drive, Abingdon.
Arrest and investigation
Police were called to the location at around 2.20pm on Thursday, September 10, launching an investigation. A 36-year-old man from Abingdon has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Jill’s family. We would ask, on their behalf, that their privacy is respected at this difficult time. Specially trained officers continue to support Jill's family."
In a previous statement, he said: "Firstly, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim and I would ask that their privacy is respected, at this distressing time. I understand that incidents like this will cause concern in the community but we are investigating the death as a priority and there is an increased police presence in the area. At this early stage we do not currently believe there is any threat to the wider public as we have made an arrest and we are not looking for anyone else, at this time. Anyone with concerns or questions can speak with a uniformed officer in the area."
