Dyfed-Powys Police and the West Wales Football Authority (WWFA) have launched a formal investigation after a brawl broke out at an under-15s football match in Wales, with both adults and children involved in the confrontation.
The incident occurred during a match between Hakin United and Pennar Robins in Pembrokeshire on Saturday. Footage shared from the scene shows two adult men on the pitch, with a player appearing to kick towards one of the men as others try to break up the fight.
Confrontation spills onto sidelines
The confrontation continued on the sidelines, where one individual appears to kick another, who ends up on the ground. A number of adults and young players are subsequently seen wading in, while some stunned spectators — including young children — can be heard crying out "woah, woah" and "calm down".
The WWFA confirmed in an official statement that the matter is being treated "extremely seriously". The statement read: "The WWFA are aware of an incident which occurred at a junior football fixture in Pembrokeshire and of video footage circulating in relation to the matter.
Formal investigations underway
"The incident is being taken extremely seriously and will be considered in accordance with the appropriate disciplinary and safeguarding procedures, an investigation has commenced. As this process is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the circumstances of the incident or any individuals involved at this stage.
"The welfare and safety of all young players, coaches, officials and spectators remains of paramount importance, the appropriate action will be taken following the conclusion of the relevant processes."
A police statement read: "Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a public order offence which took place at Hakin Football Club on Picton Road, Hakin, on Saturday (12/9). The incident was reported to have taken place at a time between 12pm and 12.30pm. The matter has been recorded and allocated for onward investigation."
Club stresses child protection priority
A Pembrokeshire League spokesperson confirmed they were aware of the matter and that it had been referred to the WWFA "for appropriate action to be taken". They went on to say: "Incidents like this are not commonplace within Pembrokeshire Football and we hope any punishment issued by the WWFA will deter any similar incidents from occurring."
A representative for Hakin United stated that the club was not in a position to comment further at this time, but emphasised that the protection of children remains the club's utmost priority.
