Police are continuing to search for a man who attempted to murder his wife in a machete attack. Officers have launched a renewed appeal for information to track down Sharaz Ali.
The 45-year-old was convicted of attempted murder after stabbing his wife multiple times with a machete and a knife in their home in Birmingham in September 2021. However, he failed to appear during his trial in August 2022 and was sentenced to 23 years behind bars in his absence.
Renewed appeal for information
West Midlands Police are continuing to appeal for information on his whereabouts and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. Police said Ali, who had been living in the Stechford area of Birmingham, had been staying in Croydon, London. However, detectives believe someone in Birmingham may know where he is now.
The public are urged not to approach Ali but to call 999 immediately. Anyone with relevant information on his location can also report details anonymously to Crimestoppers.
Police statement on the case
West Midlands Police said: "We're continuing to appeal for your help to track down Sharaz Ali who attempted to murder his wife five years ago.
"The 45-year-old was convicted after stabbing his wife on 10 September 2021. During the trial in August 2022, he failed to appear and a bench warrant was issued by Birmingham Crown Court."
The force continued: "Ali, who had been living in Stechford, Birmingham was tried and convicted in his absence. We've been working hard to trace his whereabouts and understand he had been known to stay in Croydon, London, but we believe someone in Birmingham may know where he is.

"We've been working with other forces and investigating Ali's previous movements to try and establish where he is now. If you've seen him, or know where he is, please do not approach him, but call 999 immediately, quoting investigation number 20/1410584/21.
