A dispersal order has been authorised in Cardiff Bay, giving police extra powers to deal with troublemakers across most of this weekend.
South Wales Police has confirmed a section 35 dispersal order will be in place from Friday afternoon until 4pm on Sunday, August 23. The order follows increased reports of recent antisocial behaviour and vehicle related antisocial behaviour.
Areas covered by the order
The order will cover areas including Harbour Drive, Britannia Quay, and Cargo Road. The extra powers are granted to South Wales Police under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act 2014.
It allows uniformed officers and PCSOs to direct individuals or groups to leave a specified public area for up to 48 hours to prevent crime, disorder, or antisocial behaviour.
What the powers allow
Under section 35 of the act, police officers can instruct anybody who is causing, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the area.
