Police find van filled with 15 drums of stolen cooking oil

Two men were arrested after police stopped them in Poynton near Stockport and found a van filled with 15 drums of stolen cooking oil.

Officers on patrol spotted the males 'acting suspiciously' on Dickens Lane in Poynton at around 4.15am on August 25. They spoke to the pair but could smell a strong smell of cooking oil on the street.

Van uncovered after search

After searching the area, they uncovered a white Peugeot van which contained 15 drums of cooking oil inside, Cheshire Police said. A 35-year-old man from Doncaster and 18-year-old male from Sheffield were arrested on suspicion of theft.

Both have been taken into custody. Police now want to speak to any local businesses who believe they may be missing some cooking oil.

Appeal for information

Police Constable Barlow, of Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are in the early stages and as part of our investigation, we’re keen to hear from any local businesses who believe they may be missing any cooking oil.
