Police have taped off a section of a Tyneside street after a caravan was destroyed in a blaze. Officers were called to a "disturbance" at a property on Oban Avenue, in Howdon, shortly after 11.30pm on Wednesday.
Scene remains cordoned off
Photos from the scene show a police cordon remains in place around a driveway as enquiries continue. The remains of a caravan and a fire-damaged bin can be seen within the cordon.
Today, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three fire appliances attended a vehicle fire in the area following a 999 call.
Fire service response
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm on the evening of Wednesday 5th August, three fire appliances attended a vehicle fire in North Tyneside. The emergency call was received by our Fire Control Team at 23:32 and crews from Byker and Tynemouth Community Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene at Oban Avenue in Howdon."
"Crews left the scene at 00:02 in the early hours of Thursday morning, once the fire had been safely extinguished."
Police investigation ongoing
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 11.30pm yesterday (August 6) we received a report of a disturbance at an address on Oban Avenue in the Howdon area of North Tyneside. Officers are currently at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
