Poland has been forced to evacuate two border crossings with Ukraine after fresh Russian strikes, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said. He said the evacuations had taken place moments before he took to the stage for a press conference with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev.
Emergency alerts in eastern Poland
The move comes after thousands in the Lublin and Podkarpackie areas in the east of the country received an emergency alert.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Rumen Radev, Tusk said autumn and winter "could be truly critical," as he stressed the war compels Poland to "act very consistently".
Prime minister warns of difficult times
"This situation compels us to act very consistently here in Poland, to cooperate with Ukraine, but also to warn our European partners that these are truly difficult times," he said.
"And that we need to be well prepared for the coming weeks and months. Autumn and winter could be truly critical," the prime minister added.
