A 22-year-old plumber was shot dead in Melbourne just weeks before his wedding, his family has confirmed in a moving tribute.
Police were called to Victoria Drive in Thomastown, a northern suburb of Melbourne, Australia, at 7:30pm local time (10:30am UK time) on Sunday, September 6, following reports of a shooting. Officers found Daniel Hussein had been killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigation launched
Victoria Police have launched an investigation into the incident. In a statement issued around 90 minutes after Daniel's death, a spokesperson said: "Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Thomastown this evening."
"Emergency services responded to reports a man was shot outside a Victoria Drive address shortly after 7.30pm. Despite efforts to revive the man, who is yet to be formally identified, he was declared deceased at the scene. No arrests have been made at this stage."
Family tributes
Daniel's father confirmed his son died in the incident, according to news.com.au. His family also confirmed they have lost a 'beloved' son and nephew.
In a tribute on social media, his uncle Abdallah Hussein said: "I still cannot believe you are gone. I still cannot understand that I will never see your smile again, never hear your voice, never watch you walk through that door again. The pain is enormous. The grief is beyond words."
"You were not only my nephew. You were a piece of my heart. A part of my life. A child I helped carry into this world, and someone I thought would be there until the end of mine. My beautiful Daniel…"
