Person Dies on Train Tracks Near Greater Manchester

A person has tragically died on train tracks near Greater Manchester. Emergency crews were called to the tracks near Leyland at around 7.20am this morning (Friday, June 19) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Sadly, the person was pronounced dead on the scene, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

As crews responded, all train lines were blocked between Bolton and Wigan North Western and Preston. Services were cancelled, delayed or revised.

As of 9.15am, the lines had been reopened but passengers will continue to face major disruption until around 10.30am. Services from Northern, TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast are affected.
