A 73-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after a ground floor flat fire in the city's Rannoch Grove prompted a large emergency response.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on the morning of Saturday, September 26, after an alarm was raised around 8am. Firefighters, police officers and paramedics were all spotted at the incident. The extent of the man's injuries is not yet known.
Witness describes 'major incident'
One eyewitness told Edinburgh Live: "I heard the police racing past my home and could hear the sirens. It sounded like a major incident. I counted six police vehicles and three fire engines plus an ambulance. You could see the water streaming down the hill onto Rannoch Road. I hope everyone is ok."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8am on Saturday, 26 September, 2026, we were called to a report of a fire at a property in Rannoch Grove, Edinburgh. A 73-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We dispatched three pumps and a height appliance to a ground floor flat fire after receiving a call out at 7.54am."
Work is continuing to establish the nature and cause of the fire.
