A 79-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian in a Tesco car park in Edinburgh seven months ago.
Bill Hepburn, 66, died at the scene after he was allegedly struck by a blue Volkswagen Polo at around 9am on February 18. Emergency services were called to the supermarket car park off Meadow Road Place in the Corstorphine area of the city.
An air ambulance was deployed, but despite efforts, Mr Hepburn died from his injuries. No one else was injured in the collision.
Investigation and arrest
An investigation was launched to establish the full circumstances, and police have now confirmed that a 79-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal crash. He will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
In a statement previously released through police, Mr Hepburn's loved ones said: "Our family are heartbroken at the loss of Bill who was a loving husband and father." They requested privacy while they grieved for their beloved relative.
Scene response
The car park area was closed for around four hours for enquiries to be carried out. Photos taken at the scene showed a heavy police and ambulance presence, with the area cordoned off with police tape.
One resident reported a large police presence with "loads of four-by-fours" and "an intense" scene. The local told Edinburgh Live: "My son's dad was driving past and there were loads of four-by-four, police cars.
"There was an extremely heavy police presence there. He called to say, 'What's going on?' He said it was quite intense."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 79-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash in Edinburgh. The incident happened on Wednesday, 18 February, 2026, within a supermarket car park on Meadow Place Road, and involved a pedestrian and a car. The pedestrian, Bill Hepburn, aged 66, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The 79-year-old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
