Ten arrests have been made and two people are in hospital after masked youths armed with knives, bats and machetes clashed on streets in Manchester in broad daylight on Monday.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to reports of 'a large-scale violent disorder' believed to involve teenagers in the Lower Openshaw area at around 12.50pm on Monday lunchtime.
A large group of youths, some wearing masks, were reported to be involved as violence flared across four streets.
Witness reports 'blood on the streets'
One witness reported 'blood on the streets', with police saying investigations were ongoing on Goole Street, Kellbrook Road, Herne Street Park and Abbeyfield Square.
GMP said: "Officers attended and found a large group of youths, many wearing balaclavas. A number of weapons, including knives, bats and machetes, have been reported in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
Ten males arrested
Ten males, aged between 17 and 19, have been arrested so far. Two people are currently receiving treatment in hospital for injuries believed to have been sustained during the disorder.
GMP added: "Four scenes remain in place on Goole Street, Kellbrook Road, Herne Street Park and Abbeyfield Square, as officers continue their investigation."
The severity of the injuries - and what the ten were arrested on suspicion of - haven't been revealed.
Patrols stepped up
GMP said police patrols in the areas involved would be stepped up. Greater Manchester Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
