A man in New Jersey allegedly stabbed two brothers who own a bakery because they served him an eggplant sandwich instead of an egg sandwich four years earlier, police said.
Abed and Mohammed Assad were attacked at Baladna Bakery in Paterson on 31 July. The suspect reportedly complained that the sandwich had made him ill. Moneer Simrin, a friend of the victims, told WABC TV that the assailant confronted Mohammed about the order from years ago.
Simrin said the brothers offered a refund or credit, but the man began cursing and pulled a knife. He allegedly stabbed Mohammed in the chest and slashed Abed on the arm when he intervened. Both were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing screams and seeing one victim outside with a bloody arm. The bakery remained closed over the weekend. Police spokesperson Rob Rowan confirmed the attack and said the suspect is still at large, with the major crimes unit investigating.
