A serious collision on the M50 motorway in Dublin has left nine people requiring hospital treatment after a car reportedly drove the wrong way down a ramp.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 5:30am on Sunday morning following reports of a vehicle travelling northbound on the southbound carriageway. The vehicle was heading down the up ramp at Junction 12 when it collided head-on with another car.
Eight occupants, all male juveniles, were taken to several different hospitals for treatment. One of the youths remains in a critical condition. The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 20s, was also injured and transported to hospital with injuries described as 'serious'.
Road Closures and Investigation
The stretch of the M50 between Junction 12 and Junction 11 southbound remains closed, with local diversions in place. A Garda Forensic Collision investigation is under way, and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly those who were travelling on the M50 between Junction 14 and Junction 11 between 5am and 5:30am and may have dashcam footage. A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing to road users who were travelling on the M50 between Junction 14 and Junction 11 northbound or southbound between 5am and 5:30am this morning Sunday, 9 August and who may have dashcam footage of the incident or surrounding area to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."
